Japanese government has been funding several research programs on the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other infectious diseases in Africa. In the symposium, three major Japanese government-funded programs, SATREPS, J-GRID, and ICREP-NTDs, will be introduced in order to discuss roles of the programs in Africa in the international frames of NTDs and infectious disease control. Also through sharing the status and challenges of these research and development, we will discuss potential areas of mutual interest and the possibility of creating a mechanism to continue discussions and facilitate coordination and cooperation between Africa and Japan.
